Unfortunately, this weeks maintenance has not solved the locking issue relating to the server. All non-essential system services have been disabled and we are in the process of looking through additional logs to try and isolate the problem. In addition to this, new hardware which includes a remote access card (this will allow immediate reboots of the server should a problem arise) and we are currently loading up a temporary new system to move server operations to while we work through this problem to avoid any additional business day down-time. Please contact us if you have any further questions.

Server Maintenance - 12/02/06 1PM-2PM CDT
|
In response to recent server problems we will be taking the server offline from 1:00PM to 2:00PM CST for maintenance. The issue which has caused the intermittent loss of accessibility has been difficult to track due to a lack of any error messages being reported by any systems on the server. However,
since we have noticed that the crashes generally happen under heavier system loads, in particular when the system is using lots of memory, we believe the problem to be with faulty memory.
To handle the situation in the immediate timeframe we have disabled all non-essential system services and it appears to have solved the problem temporarily. This Saturday during the maintenance window "all" memory in the server will be completely replaced to hopefully resolve this issue for good; additionally, we will be adding another gigabyte of memory at this time since it is available and may help provide a performance increase in some services. After the memory has been changed out, the system will be brought back online and be subjected to a heavier than usual (but still operationally appropriate) load to help fully determine if the problem has been solved.

In our recent update of various software webmail somehow failed to work properly following this update. It was an obscure bug which took some time to find but at this point has been resolved. Please let us know if you have any further trouble with accessing webmail. Thank you!

Our host appears to have had a brief network outage this morning from approximately 9:45AM through 11:00AM. The server itself is running fine and did not experience any issues aside from inaccessibility for this duration. We appologize for any inconvenience and have already spoken to our provider about our concerns regarding this matter. Thanks!

Server Security Information & Systems Upgrade
|
Last week server security was minimally compromized by a SQL injection script attack on another site hosted on the same server. This attack was not visible to anyone utilizing the server in anyway but was found through proactive monitoring of the servers systems. This allowed us to being monitoring and addressing the break in literally moments after it began and working to track down the individuals responsible for the break in.
In addition, today we have initiated upgrades on all system software that is not presently at the latest version available. This upgrade will include core systems such as web server and database software. This upgrade 'should not' adversely impact hosted services 'or' availability of those services with the exception of the possibility of brief bursts of lag due to actual software updating happening on the server itself.
For more details on the break in or about the updates being made, please click on "Read More"

Per our prior announcement the server memory replacement and upgrade has been completed and everything appears to be in operational status once again. We anticipate this maintenance to completely fix the intermittent locking issues we've experienced over the past week. Please be sure and let us know if you notice any additional issues as soon as possible so we can fix the problem as quickly as possible.

In a bit of a belated update due to the holiday I wanted to announce that Pleiades Design finally made it's migration to the new data facility in Kansas City. This new facility is a former Level3 building with all the fixings. Physical security including 6ft barbwire topped fence surrounding the building, keypad and keyed access and a variety of alarm systems. Additionally, this facility also provides excellent climate control through multiple air conditioning/climate control units and although the building has great power, it also has a generator in the event that a power failure were to happen.
In addition to the physical move, we also made a physical hardware swap to a dual processor machine running Raid 5 which has been in testing phase for the past month to verify stability prior to implementation. In addition, this gave us the time needed to fully configure all intrusion detection systems, reconfigure and verify antivirus and spam rejection capabilities before going live. All-in-all lessing intrusion risks substantially and increasing reliability even more.
|
Yesterday we purchased new hardware for our web and data services. This new hardware will allow us to provide greater assurance of high availability and reliability greater than what we currently offer. We will be testing this new hardware over the next few weeks and migrating services to it after verifying its capabilities and functionality will be adequate to everyones needs. Stay tuned for more to come on this!

Important News: Pleiades Design and all hosted sites (and related services) will be offline Saturday, Feburary 18th for between 2 and 3 hours while the server undergoes a physical relocation. In addition this will mean new IP addressing which could mean up to 48 hours before all services are fully functional again. Please e-mail us at support(at)pleiadesdesign.com for more detailed information about this move. We appologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
